How did you come up with the great-but crazy-name "Technopoli"?

Dr. Larry Killian The winning entry in our Name That Calendar contest was "Technopoli" submitted by Dr. Larry Killian. (In case you missed it, "Technopoli" is composed of pieces of three words: TECHNOLOGY OPPORTUNITY LISTINGS.) Very clever indeed.

Who is Dr. Larry Killian?
Dr. Killian has a B.S. in biology from Cedarville University, a B.S. in secondary education from Central State University, an M.S. in science education from Syracuse University, and a Ph.D. in biomedicine with an area of specialization in molecular pharmacology from Wright State University.

His experience in research and teaching dates back to 1956. Dr. Killian began teaching in secondary school classrooms in 1963 and in 1967 he began his career inteaching at the college and university level. Since 1990 he has been a full time professor at Clark State Community College in Springfield, Ohio where he currently serves as Faculty Development Coordinator. For the past three years he has taught online courses.

His wife is a 4th grade teacher at the Xenia, Ohio campus Dayton Christian Schools. His son, Tad, is employed in the restaurant business in Miamisburg, Ohio. His daughter, Kristl, son-in-law Matthew Kirk, and grandchildren Hannah and Nate are church planting missionaries in York, England, United Kingdom. His daughter, Erin is a neurosurgical nurse at the Miami Valley Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio; and his daughter, Courtney, is employed in Dietary Services at the Liberty Nursing Home in Xenia, Ohio.

In His Own Words:
"I was one of those faculty members who was very skeptical about distance education for a number of years and was therefore reluctant to embrace the latest technologies. My word processing and technical skills were very limited and it just seemed too risky and threatening to try new techniques. I overcame these fears when I made a decision to jump in and give it a try to do my part in an initiative that would enable our Health Technologies Division to put our entire LPN and RN programs online.

Technopoli will provide me and many others with valuable information to help us build on our current skills, to network with colleagues, and to improve our ability to benefit students by enhancing our classroom efforts. The information is highly specific, interactive, and available at our fingertips. This site is designed to meet individual needs and to link the very finest instruction and opportunities with those who need and desire it most. TECHNOPOLI IS A DREAM COME TRUE!"
